We finally launched our anthology – Written Tenfold – at the Brooklin Public Library with a good turnout of BPS members. Unfortunately, Whitby Mayor Don Mitchell was not able to make it but he sent a letter of commendation – see below. Also, we were honored to have Whitby Councillor Mulcahey in attendance to help celebrate the event. Following is Gail Murray’s delightful description of the launch, the Mayor’s letter and some pictures of the participants and contributing poets reading their work from the anthology.

Not to be deterred by the ice storm, Brooklin Poetry Society reschedules and launches their anthology – Written Tenfold – on a sunny May afternoon. A small informal gathering. An appreciative group. A wide range of talent. Yes a fine afternoon beginning with commendations from the local councillor representing the mayor’s office who helped fund the project.

We read in alphabetical order starting with artist and writer John Di Leonardo who reads on themes of desire and beauty and a lush piece inspired by Monet’s Water Lilies. Theresa Donnelly in her wonderful Irish lilt reads a poignant piece about her father as well as poems full of imagery and mysticism. The room fills with emotion. Next is Bradley Mcllwain, one of the original founders of this group and fresh from walking El Camino de Santiago which surfaces later in Renee’s piece –  El Camino. Gail M. Murray shares  tender love poems – Dichotomy and Orchid Petals and pieces about Italy – her second love. Renee  M. Sgroi’s poems reverberate in depth and Rod Stone closes with enchanting pieces on nature and a poignant piece – The Garden Gnome.

Renee visited Jeane Sauve P.S. in Oshawa on behalf of Brooklin Poetry Society to meet with budding poets in a grade 4 class.  The kids were impressed to write a poem with a real poet!
